2023/7/29 - DOROTHEA DIX SUNFLOWERS
DIRECTOR'S CUT EXTENDED EDITION

This is the Director's Cut Extended Edition for this album, meaning I have included many photos which don't meet my typical artistic standards because they hold special memories for me. If you are looking for a shorter and higher quality collection, visit the curated Theatrical Cut at DOROTHEA DIX SUNFLOWERS 2023 - SPIDER FREE THEATRICAL RELEASE.

After skipping just one day, I came back to the field to see a sea of green. I was astonished how quickly the flowers had deteriorated after maturity. Of course, this means that the birds were going absolutely buckwild in there. The goldfinches made themselves easy to find, but I also chased around a few Indigo Buntings, just loving that bright, bright blue. The camera actually picks up way more colour than you see in real life. They can look quite dark unless the sun hits them just so (and same goes for the Blue Grosbeak).

Other birds said that the famous Painted Bunting had made his first appearance in the actual sunflowers the single day I didn't show up. After living here for an entire year, he finally ventured outside his comfort zone. We heard him come up to the trees surrounding the field, but he never came in on this day. I saw him instead eating some grass seeds just outside his beloved brush pile.

The only photo I got of a hummingbird this year. I saw at least two, but they don't stick around
